Event Information:
GBCC kicks off the fall with its 2024 annual meeting and an Open Sing with Anthony Trecek-King!
Annual Meeting (doors open 9am; meeting runs 9:15-9:45am): Those associated with GBCC choirs in good membership standing are invited to hear updates from the GBCC board, vote on new GBCC board directors (nominee bios can be viewed here), and network with other members. Light breakfast fare will be provided.
Open Sing (doors open 9:45am; sing runs 10am-11:15am): Join us for a community open sing on a range of repertoire, including arrangements of his own, led by Berkshire Choral International Artistic Director and Handel and Haydn Society Resident Conductor Anthony Trecek-King. Enjoy an opportunity to sing and dialogue with your friends and colleagues. This event is open to all singers, regardless of affiliation with a GBCC member choir.
Following the open sing, all are welcome to join the board for additional social time at a nearby restaurant.
Advance registration is strongly encouraged. Click here to register (open sing is $10 for GBCC members, $15 for non-members; annual meeting portion is free). Additional details regarding the venue can be found on the registration site.
GBCC is excited to share the repertoire for this open sing with Anthony Trecek-King. This list was curated by Anthony from a number of his own arrangements of African-American Spirituals and Anti-Slavery Melodies, including a brand new setting which we will read for the first time. Anthony will lead this sing while offering context for these pieces, including connections to local (Massachusetts) anti-abolitionist movements of the 1840’s:
Woke Up This Morning – arr. Trecek-King
I want to go home – arr. Trecek-King
Turn Me ‘Round – arr. Trecek-King
I’ll Overcome Some Day – Charles Albert Tindley arr. Trecek-King
My Country Tis of Thee – Hingham Abolitionist arr. Trecek-King
Elijah Rock – Traditional arr. Jester Hairston
I’m Building Me A Home – Traditional arr. Trecek-King
In This Lan’ – arr. Trecek-King
Children, We All Shall Be Free – arr. Trecek-King
Freedom’s Fire – Mary L. Gardney – Hymn No. 8 from Anti-Slavery Melodies (1848)
