An award-winning chamber choir drawing membership from across the Northeastern region, Ensemble Companio lives out its mission “to build bridges between people through authentic, inspiring performances of the finest choral music” through its innovative programming, frequent collaborations, and uniquely accessible model. Led by Artistic Director Erik Peregrine and entering its 14th season, we are accepting auditions for all voice parts.
With rehearsals and performances distributed throughout Boston, New York City, Philadelphia and other locations along the eastern seaboard, Ensemble Companio attracts a diverse community of highly dedicated, exemplary musicians from a variety of professions who are unified in their passion for the power of choral singing. Regularly performing local, regional and world premieres of contemporary works, Ensemble Companio is known for its adventurous programming and vibrant, moving concert experiences, all sung from memory. A typical season weaves together unaccompanied repertoire spanning from the medieval period to modern day, highlighting music by historically excluded composers, rarely performed masterworks and choral gems of all genres.
In the spirit of its mission, Ensemble Companio regularly collaborates with a wide variety of school, community, and collegiate ensembles across the Northeast. Rehearsals are open to the public; visitors are encouraged to observe at any point during the preparation process. Rehearsal dates and locations can be viewed on our website.
Our rehearsal season runs September through March, during which we meet monthly for retreat-style, weekend-long rehearsals, and then perform three concerts (March, April and May). For many singers, this provides greater flexibility than the traditional weekly rehearsal model. However, this setup requires greater individual responsibility as singers are expected to study and memorize music between monthly rehearsals. This commitment is the secret ingredient to Ensemble Companio’s musical excellence and close camaraderie.
Rehearsals and concerts take place in a rotating set of locations across the northeast including New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Members organize their own travel logistics, but we team up for housing and travel support when possible. To minimize costs, carpooling and homestays are typical and chorus sections take turns providing Saturday lunches. Members often spend the Saturday evening of rehearsal weekends socializing together.
Our membership is comprised of singers from all walks of life united by a love of singing and a belief in the transformative and restorative power of quality choral music performed beautifully. Open to singers 21 years of age and older, Ensemble Companio’s dynamic structure is ideal for young professionals, recent graduates, and parents searching for a high-quality post-collegiate choral experience.
