Founded in 1934, the Newburyport Choral Society (NCS) is one of the oldest community choral societies in New England. Comprising approximately 100 singers from more than thirty communities in eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, NCS is a non-auditioned chorus whose members hold diverse musical backgrounds and range in age from high school students to retirees. Recent concerts include a world-premiere performance of the NCS-commissioned Guidelines, a setting of the poetry of Rhina Espaillat; Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem; and Ballad of the Brown King by African-American composer Margaret Bonds. The Newburyport Choral Society is a proud member of the Greater Boston Choral Consortium and Chorus America.
