Seraphim performs choral music in majestic spaces, reaching beyond traditional confines of sacred music for diversity in composers and repertoire, complementing the programming of classical pieces with contemporary and commissioned works, while consistently exploring spiritual themes of divine transcendence, human longing, suffering, and protest. Founded in 1997 by Music Director Emerita Jennifer Lester, Seraphim has commissioned and premiered a substantial number of new works, and has also championed women composers past and present and POC in its programming.
Our newly appointed music director is Eric Christopher Perry, a dynamic vocal artist, conductor, educator, and arts entrepreneur ideally poised to expand upon Seraphim’s tradition of brilliant programming and nuanced artistry that has inspired audiences for over 25 years. In season 2025-2026 we look forward to onboarding new singers at this exciting juncture for our ensemble.
Seraphim’s programs often have a social justice component and use choral works to illuminate critical topics, offer new perspectives, and challenge all of us to make our community and our world better. The chorus is typically comprised of 24-30 singers. Scores are provided and there is no participation fee. You can view our website at www.seraphimsingers.org.
Rehearsals are held on Mondays from 7:00–9:30 pm in the parish house at the Church of Our Saviour, 25 Monmouth Street in Brookline. On-street parking is available in the neighborhood and the church is a short walk from the T. Our primary concert venues are Holy Name Parish in West Roxbury and First Church in Cambridge. The 2025-2026 season will consist of four exciting concert programs falling under the overarching theme of Legend and Legacy.
If you have an interest in becoming a Seraph, see the audition information on our website and then contact chorus manager Caroline Scheibe at carolinescheibe@gmail.com.
