Seraphim performs choral music in sacred spaces in the Boston area, reaching beyond traditional confines of sacred music for diversity in composers and repertoire, complementing the programming of classical pieces with contemporary and commissioned works, while consistently exploring spiritual themes of divine transcendence, human longing, suffering, and protest. Founded in 1997 by Music Director Jennifer Lester, Seraphim has commissioned over 20 new works, and has also championed women composers past and present. In residence at First Church Congregational, Cambridge, Seraphim has a particular partner in FCC’s Friday Cafe, which provides meals to homeless and hungry members of the community.
