Inspired by the universal theme of light, the two living composers on our program have created contemporary masterpieces, certain to appeal to both singers and audience.  Norwegian-American Ola Gjeilo's Sunrise Mass employs the familiar texts used by innumerable composers of preceding centuries, creating a work of great spiritual power and ecumenical appeal, expressing a "deeper connection with something sacred: soul, God, or nature."  llluminare, by Iowa-based composer Elaine Hagenberg, uses lesser-known sacred Latin, Greek, and English texts, taking us through a season of beauty and goodness that has been disrupted by darkness and confusion. But as Light gradually returns, hope is restored, illuminating our future and guiding us in peace.
