Event Information:
Coro Allegro, Boston’s LGBTQ+ and allied classical chorus, led by Artistic Director David Hodgkins, concludes its season with Luminous Rescue: Psalms of Protest and Reconciliation, a program that reflects the ensemble’s mission to build community through music of artistic excellence. At the heart of the program are three extraordinary American works—Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Charles Ives’ Psalm 90, and Patricia Van Ness’ Psalms of Luminous Rescue. Together, they explore the human longing for peace, justice, and spiritual renewal, giving voice to both protest and reconciliation in a complex and often fractured world. Van Ness’ Psalms of Luminous Rescue, originally commissioned by Coro Allegro in 2018, returns in a substantially revised version. The composer has refined and expanded the work to heighten its expressive clarity and emotional impact, deepening its resonance for both performers and audiences. As Boston’s LGBTQ+ and allied classical chorus, Coro Allegro creates space where music and identity intersect—where diverse voices come together not only in performance, but in shared purpose. This program reflects that commitment, offering a journey from anguish toward hope, from division toward connection. The performance will feature guest artists organist Jerrick Cavagnaro and soprano Janet Stone. As part of the event, Coro Allegro will present its 2025 Pinkham Award to Boston Gay Men’s Chorus Artistic Director Reuben Reynolds, recognizing his leadership and contributions to LGBTQ+ choral life.
