MASTERWORKS CHORALE CONCLUDES SEASON WITH MOZART,

                                                      HAYDN AND … GEORGE WASHINGTON?

Masterworks Chorale, now in its 85th year, concludes its 24-25 season with a concert May 18 at First Church in Cambridge.  Featured works include Mozart’s Credo Mass, his Alma Dei creatoris and Regina coeli; Johann Michael Haydn’s Te Deum in C and Joseph Haydn’s Ave Regina coelorum.

Under the direction of Kevin Leong, these works will feature soloists Teresa Wakim, soprano; Emily Marvosh, contralto; Jason McStoots, tenor and Dana Whiteside, baritone, and will be accompanied by some of Boston’s best Baroque instrumentalists.

Why George Washington?  Reenactor Web Tilney will welcome the audience, ‘revisiting’ First Church (as he did in 1775), drawing connections to his history training 15,000 militia on the Cambridge Common, and maintaining his headquarters in the George Vassall house on Brattle Street (now the Longfellow House.)

His appearance also acknowledges connections with the 250th anniversary of the battles of Lexington and Concord, and the founding of Masterworks Chorale in 1940 as the Lexington Choral Society.
