About the Position:
The South Shore Children’s Chorus seeks a creative and experienced candidate to serve as our Director of Choirs. This is a new leadership and managerial role within the artistic branch of SSCC. The Director of Choirs is a choral music education professional who will teach multiple K-6th grade classes per week (Upbeat and Amplify choirs), and assist with 7th-12th grade ensembles (Dynamic and Resonate choirs). This role will also manage staff and teach during our summer programs. The Director of Choirs will provide leadership for our passionate part-time artistic team as well as manage and partner with our administrative staff (Program Manager & Rehearsal Manager(s).) With support from the Executive Artistic Director, the Director of Choirs is responsible for artistic leadership and class direction including curriculum planning, logistics for rehearsals and concerts, and student recruitment.
The SSCC artistic team is a joyful group of music educators who laugh together and enthusiastically share music with one other. They are committed to the personal development and growth of the SSCC student community. The Director of Choirs will be an integral part of this community and work in tandem with the SSCC artistic team to foster a collaborative, vibrant, focused and high-quality music education environment with growth mindset as a priority.
The ideal candidate must be a champion of SSCC’s mission to serve students from all musical backgrounds and experiences. SSCC is completely audition-free for all age groups and ensembles and achieves high quality music-making by providing a supportive and enriching environment that maximizes student abilities. Students in the program have varied levels of experience, and it is expected that all members of the SSCC artistic team be equipped with educational strategies to effectively balance classes and integrate all experience levels.
